Kite Line
Kite Line is a book of cultural heritage, presenting the relationship and connection between my parents and me, also represents the relationship of most modern Chinese families. I used a lot of metaphors in the illustrations, also tried to play with illustrative texts to make them poetic and exciting. The story is about my father's story of leaving his hometown, why he came to Beijing from a small city in Shandong province and why my parents support me to study abroad now. So I printed the book in layout papers to give the audience a light and flying feeling, representing this indistinct connection to the family.
I also asked my father to teach me to make a kite; the process of teaching and making adds another layer of inheritance to this project. The thread on the book cover can also connect the book and kite. So you can fly this kite by holding the book. This whole outcome is full of traditional Chinese cultures. So there is a sense of telling a small and personal family story in an extensive cultural background.
